Not so sturdy
The piastra is great-looking and has both a griddle side and a ridged side. Food prepared on it cooks well. However, it developed a significant crack partway into one side after only two uses. As thick as it is, I would think it would stand up better. The outside of the box says "lifetime guarantee" but there was no accompanying brochure inside or any info on how to exercise the guarantee, otherwise I would.
So, save your money, and instead buy a good-quality stainless steel griddle or grate. Metal doesn't crack. I like Mario Batali's recipes but his piastra leaves me feeling "piastr"'d-off.
Believe the reviews. Poor quality product
As stated in several other reviews, the edge of the piastra cracked off a large (3 inch dia.) chip after being on the grill about 7 to 8 min the first time it was used. The supplier (myTableware) was very good about a refund. Too bad the granite supplier in China wasn't of the same level.
So very Italian!
I love the hard ridged granite surface of this cooking stone. You can use it on the grill outdoors or indoors in your oven Just heat it at high temperature for 1 hour, bring it out and it cooks seafood, steaks, vegetables to perfection.
